About Me

Hello and welcome to my site. Finding Your Serenity was officially set up by myself, Sarah, in December 2017, and relaunched in 2021, as a way to share a piece of me and my inner journey with the outside world and to have a positive effect on others.

At the age of 27, I was diagnosed with inattentive type ADHD, after struggling for many years of being frustrated and overwhelmed. Ultimately, and I knew this way before I was diagnosed, I knew that the problems within me, would be a lot easier to deal with if there wasn't the pressures I faced in the modern world. For a long time, I knew the system didn't work for me and this is what frustrated me the most and drove me to start speaking up for myself and to other neurodiverse individuals.

I currently take medication for my ADHD but wonder what I would be like if I had the freedom of making my own way in the world and using my best qualities of ADHD, which are not seen or appreciated enough in the system and society we live in today.
These 'problems' I've had could be seen as negative, but they have opened me up to a whole new world. I have a different perspective on life now and have found many great things through my struggles. I became interested in finding inner peace through finding ways to cope with these symptoms, both mentally and physically, and consequently began practicing yoga and meditation and connecting to nature. I love to share what has helped me before and after my diagnosis.
After hiding parts of myself for so long, I begun sharing more about my life online and not only have I enjoyed expressing myself creatively and openly but I have made new friends in doing so, who are on a similar path to me. I have seen beauty through struggle and this alone has given me the motivation to grow as a person and I want to inspire others to do the same. I currently take Atomoxetine for my ADHD and I discuss this on my YouTube channl in more detail.

I have come a long way and I am currently spending some of my time pouring from my tiny cup of wisdom into a book. Although I don't see this being finished any time soon due to feeling overwhelmed by the size a book should be and in comes procrastination!

I work in a laboratory office but when I am not wearing a white coat you will most likely find me exploring woodlands and waterfalls, practicing Druidry and communing with the trees, taking photos, making and editing videos, writing, reading, listening to music, researching, practicing yoga, learning new things, crafting or going on days out with my other half. I have so many interests that are ever changing but these ones typically stay with me.

I believe that in order to be happy you must be grateful for what you have and find your own meaning and purpose, otherwise you will never be fulfilled. I truly believe in the power of slow living, connecting to nature, meditation & mindfulness, creativity, music, thinking for yourself, a healthy diet & exercise and seeing the beauty that already exists in this world. Even though I tend to focus on the problems within our society, it's important for me to recognise that there is hope and freedom can be attained for us outside of the system, perhaps if not in this lifetime then for future neurodivergent people and for all of those who suffer as a result of the way we are conditioned to live. For now, I believe that for myself, I can achieve the freedom I know will help me to thrive, sitting on the edges of the system we live in.

I think there is a lot to be said about the way we are programmed and since I began to think on this, I can't stop questioning it. I hope to write and talk more about this in particular the way it relates to ADHD and mental health in general.
